Board Certified Specialist
Sports Physical Therapy

Erik
is a licensed physical therapist and a certified strength and conditioning
specialist. He was one of the first physical therapists in the City
of Portland who is Board Certified by the American Physical Therapy
Association (APTA) as a Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy (SCS).
He has extensive experience in the treatment and management of sports
injuries and biomechanics analysis.
In
addition to his sports medicine work, he is often a presenter for
the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA)
and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Erik is very active at the national
level with the Sports Section (SPTS) of the APTA. Through the SPTS he is the founder and current chair
of the Hip Special Interest Group (SIG), a member of the Shoulder,
Knee, and Intercollegiate/Professional Sports SIGs, and a member
of the Membership Committee.
Educated
at the University of
Florida where he completed a sports medicine internship with
their NCAA Division IA football team, he began his career at the
George Washington
University Hospital in Washington, DC. At GWUH, he was Co-Founder
of their Total Joint Center and the Physical Therapy Coordinator
for total joint education and postoperative evaluation and treatment.
Before relocating to Portland in 2000, Erik was a physical therapy
advisor for the George
Washington University Medical School.
Erik
has been involved in evaluation and treatment in such areas as acute,
neuro-rehab, orthopedics, and sports medicine. As a certified strength
and conditioning specialist, he has devoted his studies to maximizing
function and performance through exercise prescription. He is often
a featured author for the Strength and Conditioning Journal,
contributing training and injury prevention tips to coaches and
athletes. He has also published research in The North American

He
enjoys kayaking, mountaineering, rock climbing, snowboarding, photography, woodworking,
iaido, and playing the guitar (badly). He lives in Portland with his wife
Kristin, daughter Alex, and their dog Toby.

Kathleen
Hahn , DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Certified Fitness Trainer/ASTYM Certified
Kathleen
is a licensed physical therapist, a certified fitness trainer, certified
in ASTYM, and fluent in Spanish. ASTYM
is a manual treatment that helps with the breakdown of scar tissue,
chronic issues, and helps with the treatment of a variety of injuries.
Kathleen
received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northwestern
University in 2006 and her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology
and Applied Physiology from University
of Colorado at Boulder. She got her fitness trainer certification
in 2001 though ISSA and is CPR certified. Kathleen has also taken
the first level of the North American Institute of Manual Therapy
(NAIOMT) certification.
Kathleen
treats everything from sports injuries, sprains/strains, pain in
the knee, ankle, hip, wrist, elbow, or shoulder, motor vehicle accidents,
workers comp, post-operation procedures, low back pain, neck pain,
weakness, and a variety of other outpatient musculoskeletal disorders.
Kathleen has published two articles for Competitor NW on
hiking and triathlons. Kathleen's focus is on getting patients back
to their prior level of function and recreation whether that is
gardening and walking or professional level sports.
She
enjoys cycling, hiking, tennis, triathlons, kayaking, skiing, photography,
painting, and being outdoors. Kathleen has done triathlons, played
Division I college tennis, biked across two states, and raced for
the Northwestern University cycling team. She currently lives in
Portland.
